BISHOP CROWTHER COLLEGE OF THEOLOGY, OKENE

The Bishop Crowther College of Theology (BCCT), Okene, founded 1939, is one of the foremost and renown theological institutions of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) with stupendous wealth of experience and tradition. It is sui generis college on the rock with an impressive assemblage of suitably and highly qualified academic staff that are capable of providing theological education and spiritual formation that is equal to or well ahead of other institutions in the country and even beyond.

The college popularly known as "The College on the rock", is one of the fastest growing theological institutions of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) situated in the heart of the cosmopolitan town of Okene town in Kogi State, Nigeria. Its proximity to the Federal Collage of Education is a ten minute drive along Itakpe Iron and steel Company/ Abuja road. Towards the east is a thirty minute drive to Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company

Since inception, it has continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to spiritual and academic development of Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers of the gospel whose services are required to meet both the increasing physical and spiritual needs of the teaming converts within and around the sub-region.

The college has, over the years, with unyielding consistency, turned out spirit-filled, well-trained, highly motivated and pragmatic students who are doing well and are far ahead as vicars in their various parishes and other walks of life. This is because at BCCT, we take seriously every facet of human development and mould our students into fire-brand evangelists, well equipped with emotional intelligence, unequalled academic acumen, exceptional cerebral excellence motivated towards innovation based on objectivity.

Our serene environment, easily accessible with magnificent and spacious lecture rooms; a well equipped library and other state of the art facilities, make learning process a luxurious comfort for our students. At the moment, we run Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology degrees both on full time and part time in affiliation with Ajayi Crowther University Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. We are about to start Tent Makers' Ministry. This is a ministry specially designed for Dioceses that have peculiar barriers like language. Those to be trained in this special programme would be those who are working but desirous to serve in the indigenous church by lending a helping hand. The programme will be carried out at Diocesan Bishop's request. An Entrepreneur Department will be established soon to cater for the economic needs of our congregants where they will be trained in multiple skills acquisition like: ICT, fashion design, catering, decorating, book writing, and a lot more.

BRIEF HISTORY

The missionary activity of the 19th Century has had its far reaching positive impact in Egbira land. The expedition of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), with the support of the Attah of Igbira Kingdom gave rise to the College building project conceived by the early converts of the land, which led to the official commissioning of the building by the CMS Secretary, Rev. C. W. Wakeman on the Easter day of 1939. At the beginning of the College, It was opened for use as a semi-monastery called the Brotherhood of St. Andrew’s between 1950 and 1952.

Until 1991, the building endured a metamorphosis, beginning from a semi-monastery to Igbira Anglican College in 1967, and Christian Education Center for training of religious teachers for schools and Catechist in 1980.

In January, 1991, the College was converted to full-fledge College of Theology for the award of Diploma in Theology and in Christian Education. Successively, the College graduated from being a Diploma awarding institution to a Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Arts awarding institution.

FROM THE DEAN
VEN. DR. JOHN YANDA JONAH

Greetings from the College on the Rock in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is with pride for the achievements that we are able to record so far as a theological institution that I welcome you to our website. While we are tremendously proud of these achievements, we are also cautious in lauding them too much because we believe that we are not yet where we are desirous to be. Our pride stems from the fact that we are not where we were in the preceding year.

The College has evolved from being a Catechist training to a Diploma awarding and now Degree awarding institution with a clear vision and mission. Credit must be given to the unfeigned loving kindness of the Primate of All Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev. Dr. Nicholas Okoh, the assiduity of the Archbishop of Lokoja Province, the Most Rev. Dr. E. S. Egbunu, for their sponsorship, prayers and advice. The Board of Governors Chair, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Duke Akamisoko, whose hunger for excellence has made us stand on our feet all the time, needs to be acknowledged. They have contributed to the development of the College and are still doing so in fellowship with all Bishops in the Church of Nigeria.

As a degree awarding institution affiliated to the prestigious Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Oyo State Nigeria, we are open for admission from all who would want to serve in the ministry in the Church of God. Admission forms are downloadable on this website from the Admission Portal. The College has a wide reach and is rich in curriculum and training. With unyielding consistency and singularity of purpose, our staff selflessly and with uncanny diligence, work round the clock in ensuring that the students we turn out every year are well trained in character and learning. This has been our testimony and joy over the years.

We have developed the school both in human resource and infrastructure. Our facilities, though modest, afford maximum comfort for students thereby yielding a conducive atmosphere for teaching-learning process. However, it is important to note here that we have achieved much not because the College is not having challenges and obstacles on its way to glory but we have done so in spite of them.

I call on well meaning people of God and corporate bodies including Church Societies who are desirous to contribute to the building of the Kingdom of God to partner with us in order to further develop the College. More needs to be done on infrastructural development and other things especially at our permanent site. You can go to our Partnership/Donate portal for more details.

We welcome you to our College and invite you to join us as we continue to build the Kingdom of God with zeal and enthusiasm and accept that our mission entails a lot of sacrifices. I am persuaded that future generations will say of you and of me that for their tomorrow we gave our today.

Every blessings.
